Systemic Lupus Erythematosus mainly affects females of childbearing age, with an incidence of new cases 9 times higher than that of males. In men, SLE can follow a more aggressive course and the mortality rate is higher.

This lab talk explored a global overview of the autoantibodies that are used in the diagnosis and classification of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.

It also covers different topics including clinical and analytical issues faced in the daily lab routine.

Dr. Nicola Bizzaro

Prof. Dr. Nicola Bizzaro

Prof. Dr.Nicola Bizzaro has been Head and Medical Director of the Laboratory of Clinical Pathology and of the Diagnostic Department at Gemona del Friuli, San Daniele and Tolmezzo Hospitals, University Hospital of Udine, Italy.

He is currently the chairman of the Italian Society of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Study Group on Autoimmune Diseases, is a member of the Italian Association for Autoimmune Research and a founder-member of the Italian Interdisciplinary Forum for the Research in Autoimmune Diseases.

Has published over 700 papers in national (Italian) and international journals, including several convention reports, books, and book chapters. Dr Bizzaro’s citation h index score is 54.

He is Chief Editor of the Italian Journal of Laboratory Medicine, the official Journal of the Italian Society of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal Immunologic Research.
